Unparalleled Paint as a company has decided to be responsible about our environment by using low and zero VOC) (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints. However this was only our first step in creating a green working environment. We realize the large impact that products and the way we run our business can have on the environment. It is one of our missions to provide a service that reflects our concern for the environment and community that we live in.
The Zero or low VOC paints that we use are as durable as any other paints, with little to no difference in price. Customers can immediately appreciate the benefits of an eco-friendly painting environment with the reduced odour. While avoiding exposure to some of the long term health issues associated with regular paints, including breathing problems, headache, burning, watery eyes and nausea. Some VOCs also have been linked to cancer, as well as kidney and liver damage.
As paint dries, these harmful VOCs are released into the air at high levels. Indoor VOC levels are routinely 10 times higher than outdoor levels, and up to 1,000 times higher immediately after painting. Although VOC levels are highest during and soon after painting, they continue seeping out for several years. In fact, only 50 percent of the VOCs may be released in the first year.
Don’t buy too much
At Unparalleled Paint we calculate all paint purchases to ensure there is minimal waste. All surfaces are carefully measured and ordered as per manufacturer’s recommendations on coverage rate. The same applies when buying sundries such as masking tape, sandpaper etc.
Return What is not used
If the colour is a “stock” factory pre-mixed colour that has not been used we may be able to return for a refund. This will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Easy on the plastic
Customer property needs to be protected and sometimes plastic covers are necessary. At Unparalleled Paint we use lighter grade plastic and re-use any clean plastic for other jobs where possible
Carpooling to job sites is strongly encouraged to all employees where possible, as it will reduce cost and help the environment. Bringing lunch to work, getting lunch on the way and avoiding restaurant drive thru’s are all strongly recommended to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
All employees are instructed to empty paint cans and recyclable bottles so they can be kept separate and sorted. At the end of the day, waste is disposed of appropriately as per municipal and city regulations. Using less plastic drop cloths, packaging and recycling at the jobsite is also encouraged where possible to reduce the amount of garbage created.
Use Earth Safe Cleaners
Just like using low-VOC paints, Unparalleled Paint uses earth safe cleaners which are better for the environment because they contain fewer damaging chemicals.
Roller covers and brushes that are easier to wash are used to save time and use less water. If the same colour is being used the following day, washing the tools daily may not be necessary. We also practice collecting as much of the washing water as possible in a bucket and re-using it for the next “first wash” if possible.
Painting will create waste and will always have some environmental impact. At Unparalleled Paint we try to make responsible choices to lessen the impact.
